Thursday, August 11th, 2011

At Fin’s when we aren’t busy entertaining the nation with our own fabulous blog, we are always looking for inspiration from other blogs. This is your guide to the chicest, most stylish and most original Menswear blogs around, all according to Fin’s!

1.     Permanent Style

A firm favourite of ours, Permanent Style is the go-to guide for any man serious about his tailoring. Written by Simon Crofton, a man with impeccable taste, each post is impressively detailed and wonderfully written. A must visit for the classic Fin’s man.

2.   Two Inch Cuff

A brand new addition to the Fin’s favourites tab.

Two Inch Cuff combines concepts from both online catalogs and blogs resulting in a really unique site. A great visit for those bored of generic style blogs and looking to discover new brands.

3.     ooooo

This blog does exactly what it the name suggests. Full of amazing things that make you ‘oooo’. We particularly love the wishlist along the side of the page which is currently featuring the most beautiful menswear buys for Autumn/Winter. Be tempted by Balenciaga coats and Burberry weekend bags galore.

4.     Buckets and Spades

A great, personal blog that incorporates design, artists, and personal stories as well as style. After a few visits you feel as if you really know Matt as you help him decide which Commes des Garcons wallet to choose for a graduation gift.

5. Portis Wasp Says

This is far from your average blog. Reading this blog is like entering Portis World where everything is just a little bit crazy.

From the bizarre welcome picture to the eclectic mix of fashion, photography, film and general chat from Portis, it’s a blog to escape to for a few hours.

The Fin’s Sale is coming to an end – hurry!

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

As the more observant among you may have already noticed, and, indeed taken advantage of, we have dropped the prices in the Fin’s sale even further. This has been met by astonishment, disbelief and, unsurprisingly, a huge amount of orders from Fin’s fans who know a great bargain when they see it!

If you haven’t already snapped up a pair or two of Fin’s in the sale, now is the time to do so. Prices are at an all time low and there are just a few days left, so time is definitely of the essence.

Our pick of the sale has got to be the Marshall Loafer in Mull Mouse which is now at a jaw-droppingly low price of £40.25.

The Marshall in Mull Mouse at £40.50

We adore the Marshall because not only is it stylish and chic but it has also been hailed as one of our comfiest shoes. Perfect for casual days in the city and nights out on the town.

The Finspadrille is another bargain perfect for those soon to be jetting off to an exotic location in the sun. The Finspadrille is ideal for taking you from the pool to the bar , and at only £17.80 it’s worth snapping up a few pairs to see you through the summer.

The Finspadrille in Pink at £17.80

Happy Shopping!

Fin’s Style News

In the midst of a week of hard-hitting and provocative news Fin’s felt it was time for some more light-hearted news features. We decided to give our Fin’s readers a break from the gritty details of various scandals and instead concentrate on the best and worst outfits from the weeks most newsworthy stories.

The Harry Potter Premiere.

The final battle between good and evil took place on the red carpet this week. But who came away with a style victory and who fell from glory?

A Definite Improvement on the Specs

A well cut grey suit paired with a simple shirt and tie in complimenting colours scored style points for Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe. We only wish he had styled his hair to match his sharp look.

His co-star, Rupert Grint, didn’t fare so well on the red carpet with his bizarre snake skin style suit. Perhaps next time he should leave the costumes on the set.

When Good Intentions Go Wrong

Will’s and Kate’s Canada Trip

With so much media attention given to Kates collection of dresses it was up to Fin’s to assess Williams sartorial choices.

The Princes penchant for navy suits became obvious during the recent tour and Wills was clearly most comfortable in a well cut navy suit paired with a modest pocket square. We can’t fault his classic look although a pair of Bull&Bears wouldn’t go amiss.

Classic Tailoring to a T

However it also became clear on the tour that jeans were not Williams forte. We particularly disliked this shabby grey pair, and thought that he would look much better in a smarter pair in dark denim, paired with Fin’s Marshalls in Islay Tan.

Out of all of the Jeans in the World...

The News of the World Hacking Scandal

Rupert Murdoch is living proof that money can’t buy style. When you’re at the centre of one of the biggest scandals of the year it’s advisable to avoid looking like a helpless old man. Murdoch needs to step up his style game and start dressing like the business tycoon he is.

A Baseball Cap, really?

LOVES & HATES of the Week from Fin’s HQ

LOVE

Wills and Kate Canada Watch

The royal visit has provided us with a constant source of entertainment this week. There hasn’t been a dull moment in the office with so many dresses, shoes (Kate), jeans (Wills) and hats (both) to analyse!

Dosey Do or Dosey Don't?

Hugh Grant

Bouncing back into our lives with his involvement in uncovering the NOTW hacking scandal.  How we have missed his earnest facial expressions.

The Fin’s Sale

Where else can you get a Finspadrille for just £26.70, or a classic loafer in Portofino Yellow for a mere £38? Brilliant bargains to be had this July.

Bargain, no?

The New Sushi Pop Up at the Bluebird

Delicious Sushi, Perfect for Lunch and just a 2 minute walk from the office. We have a feeling we will be there more than a few times this summer!!!

HATE

Waiting for Films to be Released

After watching the trailer for Sarah Jessica Parkers new movie – I Don’t Know How She Does It – we were uber-disappointed when we learnt that it is not due to be released until September. Then, imagine our distress when we realised The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep is not out until January. January!!!

The Suspense is Killing Us!

Beyonce’s New Video

So disappointing B. After the love and excitement we felt after the Glasto performance and listening to the album on repeat all week, we were expecting something special from the ‘Best I Never Had’ video.

Pamplona Bull Running

We cannot imagine why anybody would want to put themselves in this situation! The pictures say it all.

Morbid

Constant Rain

In this weather the simplest of tasks become a minefield of danger. Shoe choice in the morning is no longer about which pair of Fin’s best suit the outfit but, rather, which will be the most waterproof. A quick dash to Starbucks becomes an assault course jumping through puddles and avoiding car splashes. All in all, a very unpleasant start to July!

Love & Hates of the Week

Monday, June 27th, 2011

With team Fin’s reunited after a week away in Pitti, there was a lot to discuss this week in the office. With the exception of one recurring hate (cough, Pippa) here is the list of the most loved and hated of this week from Fin’s.

LOVE

1. Kim Kardashian Wedding Mania

Daily updates on Miss Kardashians workout schedules, weight loss, wedding lists, guestlists and bum size have made us all too excited for what is surely going to be the second biggest wedding of the year.

2 work outs a day 'a la Miss Kardashian' is definitely beyond us

2. Watching Glastonbury from the comfort (and dryness) of our own sofas

Despite the undeniably epic performance that was Beyonce’s on Sunday night, there is nothing that could have tempted us to swap our ballet flats (or indeed, Finspadrilles!) for a pair of mud soaked wellies in the heart of rainy Somerset this year.

Did anyone not want be Beyonce at this point? Boys?

3. Front Row Fashion Watch

Milan and Paris’s Mens Fashion Week have provided us with an abundance of extravagant and indulgent outfits for us to dissect from the most stylish of men.

Our favourite offerings come from the delightful Bryan Boy and the ever cool Kanye West.

How many men can pull off Leopard Print?!

HATE

1.  Reality TV Overkill-

As if the prospect of a TOWIE clothing range wasn’t shocking enough, we then heard about Foxy Bingo’s and Lauren Goodger’s new fragrance, which is almost too much to handle.

Seriously?

2.  Getting What We Wished For

After weeks of moaning about the non-existent British summer, the heat has finally arrived, bringing with it a whole host of new complaints. Sticky chairs, sweaty trains, no air con – we could go on.

The Pitti Party – Day One

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

The streets of Florence were abuzz with fashionistos last night as we wandered to dinner, sounding the arrival of the coo-el-est menswear show on earth: Pitti Uomo 80, where Fin’s is once again exhibiting next season’s wares.

It is at Pitti that the Spring Summer 2012 new styles and colours get their first viewing. If a brand wants to get their product in front of some of the most (F)influential buyers on planet earth, then this is a very good place to start.

There are lots of chic new additions to the Fin’s collection, for which the plebians among you will have to wait a little longer before you can slip your feet into.

Until then, we can confirm that colour, colour, colour will still be hot for next year, so a bright loafer can still be seen as a long term (F)investment.

The Hoff and Fin’s: A Love Story

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

If you were wandering down the King’s Road this afternoon, you may have felt a little something in the air; a slight frisson of excitement, a strange sense that something special was happening in Chelsea.  You would not have been wrong.  It’s a well known fact that, of all our wonderful, stylish heart throb Finbassadors, there is one that tops them all.  The Hoff (David to his friends) has been a loyal follower of Fin’s since the first patter of Fin feet way back in 2008, and so a fly-by visit to Fin’s HQ to see his favourite cobbler and to reminisce on old times and plan for the new was an essential part of his itinerary.

We were mighty glad to see him, and after a few photo-ops, he stocked up on a few favourites to see him through.  The new Limited Edition Drummond Cotton Twill in Hyde Violet was a particular favourite, but he also picked out some of his beloved George Loafers in Trancoso Pink for his holidays, as well as some essential London Navy Georges for summer-long wear.

Thanks for stopping by, David!

Modus Press Day – 30/3/2011

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Anyone cruising the streets of Soho could have been forgiven for wondering why such a throng fabulous fashionistas was flocking to the Vinyl Factory on Marshall Street today.  They were, of course, on their way to check out the Modus Publicity Press Day: a style haven for all fashion journalists, editors and bloggers looking for flashes of inspiration for editorial to come.

The Modus press day is held twice a year in verious locations across London.

Modus Publicity generates most of the key press coverage for Fin’s, and the season kicks off with their twice-yearly press days for all their clients. Today saw the media debut of the Autumn/Winter 2011 collections.

As you can see from the picture below, Fin’s was placed centre stage in the hope of generating a lot of oohs and aahs for the new collection. The early feedback from the team is that the new Drummond Patent Leather Evening Slipper is the buzz shoe of the season.

The Fin's stand at the press day was center stage for all the see.

Well done to all the team at Modus, and thank you for all that you do.  Here’s hoping Fin’s will remain a press favourite in the months to come!

15 Minutes with Dean Piper

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Dean Piper is a Showbiz Expert and Cultural Commentator and currently the celebrity and entertainment columnist for The Sunday Mirror. He is also a self confessed gossip lover and celebrity follower. Dean is a regular celebrity expert on BBC News 24, Sky News and Radio Five Live for high profile showbiz stories as well as working at various BBC Radio stations all over the country.

Most important of all however, is that Dean is a massive fan of Fin’s shoes, and has many pairs in his shoe-drobe. With that in mind, I grilled him recently on what makes him truly tick…

Dean Piper - Showbiz guru.

Your job requires an unprecedented beady eye for the details. Of all the full-length pap shots you rifle through, who’s known for his fabulous footwear?

Tom Ford. Without a shadow of a doubt. He’s always immaculately dressed from head to toe and  smells edible. The model David Gandy is always great fun and he can dress well. I met Patrick Cox recently and he always looks awesome. All three of these men are genuinely very nice and there’s no big ego. You have to remember in this game that they all look like shit in the morning when they get out of bed.

And, is there anyone in particular who you think is crying out for a Fin’s make-over?  And if so, what style would you choose for him?
I like the idea that you can wear Fins anywhere with the colour range it enables you to do smart or dress up a casual outfit a little too. I’d love to see David Furnish and Sir Elton John wearing Fins when they’re on their yacht. No doubt they would have to get them customised.
I think Tinie Tempah would easily slip into the mix too and rock a pair of Fins. Then there are the obvious people that could pull a pair off Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson, any of the top DJs in Ibiza and Al Pacino. That’s the thing, isn’t it? Fins are for everyone.

Aside from your Fin’s, what are your sartorial must-haves?
I’d be lying if I said I was low maintenance. Writing about all these celebs you start to start to merge into their world.
It’s fair to say I have a penchant for an Alexander McQueen scarf, I use Dermalogica moisturising products (which are essential), continually have Ray Bans Wayfarer shades with me, only like to wear skinny jeans from a shop called Kill City in LA (on Melrose and the best cut jean I’ve found) and a Hardy Amies suit jacket is always nearby for that glam red carpet event. This list could just go on and on…..

Dean with one of his many famous friends.

Clothes maketh the man: to what extent do you think your lifestyle defines your style and vice versa?

Clothes totally define who you are as a person. I recently bought my first pair of tracksuit bottoms in a decade and I turn into a slouchy Essex boy at the weekend. Then when I’m back in the madness of the showbiz world I’ll be back in shirts, jackets and skinnies. I love to dress up for an occasion. Last year at Glastonbury I spent the entire weekend in gold leggings, a white vest,  Hunters and a pirates hat. I think if I was rich I’d continually be updating my wardrobe. My mother would want to throttle me I’d be like that horrid Lottery winner Mikey Carroll, just throwing away my millions. At least I’d have a great wardrobe at the end of it.

A day in the life of Dean Piper: is there such a thing?  Surely no two twenty-four-hours are the same for you…?

It’s completely different every week. I don’t know what is going to happen at all. I can’t plan ahead with friends, I can’t look to far in advance and I’m continually tired out. I tend to be chained to my desk in Canary Wharf on a Friday and Saturday but apart from that I’m running around, being whizzed to places in cars and catching planes. I get exhausted just looking at my diary from the week before. But I’m not complaining. My job is hardly rocket science or working down a coal mine. I walk down carpets, mix with the rich and famous and write a few words about it. I’m extremely lucky and privileged to be where I am today.

If you could put yourself in the the shoes of any one celebrity, who would it be?

Madonna. How fabulous would that be? Although the pressure of every fucker in the world knowing who you are must be beyond intense.
