Permanent Style

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Men’s style bloggers are pretty much the most tricky to please.  They spend their days foraging through the fashion world, from Bond Street to High Street; there is nothing they don’t know about their craft.  It was therefore with great pride that we saw that Fin’s has secured the approval of Simon Crompton at Permanent Style.

One of our favourite things about menswear is the sometimes obsessive eye to detail: the cut, quality, how and where products are manufactured, the list goes on…  Permanent Style captures this perfectly.

For example, a recent post on ties:

“This post is about getting your tie to stand upright in the collar, arching out from the neck to create a flattering curve. The three tips are: keep it at the top of the collar band, tighten it horizontally and make sure it remains central.”

Style 101: Men’s Fashion Week

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Over at Fin’s HQ, we like to think that we can be relied upon to create timelessly chic shoes for our loyal Fin’s fans across the globe.  Not for us the flitting fads, it’s about defining the needs of our customer and gradually developing a range of shoes that will cater for his every need.  Having said that, we should all have a look at what the creatures at Men’s Fashion Week are wearing as they dash with panache between shows.  Fine, some of the ensembles may be a little on the zany side at times, but theirs are ideas that will gradually saturate through to the mainstream, so let’s at least try and stay ahead.

Here are a couple of my favourite looks from the streets of Paris and Milan:

Roll up your trousers to reveal a flash of tartan, pull up your Fair Isle socks and tie up your Timberland/Brogue Hybrids for ultimate Lumberjack Chic:Timberland Brogues

A tapered army stride paired with leather booties.  Military Smurf is so hot right now:Military Smurf

Sarcasm aside, we were slightly taken by this woven leather belt.  Maybe best applied beneath the coat, but some inspiration for a possible accessories line.

Food for thought!

Suits You

Designing shoes for men is tough when you’re a girl.  Why I don’t design dangerously sharp studded leather ballet flats like the ones below, for example, is beyond me sometimes.

Designing for men does has its perks, however, like a constant stream of handsome boys coming up to Fin’s HQ to buy shoes and sometimes dinner.  On occasion, however, we need some outside inspiration to truly understand the sartorial needs and desires of a man’s shoe-drobe.  Enter Eric Musgrave, a fan of Fin’s since the beginning, and always on hand to offer sage words.  A fashion journalisn juggernaut, he has just published a fabulous new book, Sharp Suits, an near-fetishistic guide to the 3 and 1/2 metres of fabric that lovingly creates the most handsome-making item of clothing a boy can wear (apart from a pair of Fin’s, of course).

If you are looking for some bright ideas for your next trip to Savile Row, this is the bedtime reading for you.

Crazy in Love

Monday, November 16th, 2009

We went to see Beyonce in concert last night.  She is phenomenal, a living legend, a megastar, for the following reasons:

1.  Ability to thrust her hips and flick her ginormous hair violently without her amazing voice faltering at all.

2.  Sheer professionalism, and clearly a hardcore work ethic.

3.  A beauty, even in Alexis Carrington-style white leotard/white hooded dressing gown/white heel ensemble.

She also managed to get not just her husband, but also Kanye West to perform on stage with her, which made it all the more exciting.

Here’s her performance at the MTV VMAs. Doesn’t get much better than this!

UPDATE: SHE CROWDSURFS!!!!!!

Something for the weekend…
