Love & Hates of the Week

Monday, June 27th, 2011

With team Fin’s reunited after a week away in Pitti, there was a lot to discuss this week in the office. With the exception of one recurring hate (cough, Pippa) here is the list of the most loved and hated of this week from Fin’s.

LOVE

1. Kim Kardashian Wedding Mania

Daily updates on Miss Kardashians workout schedules, weight loss, wedding lists, guestlists and bum size have made us all too excited for what is surely going to be the second biggest wedding of the year.

2 work outs a day 'a la Miss Kardashian' is definitely beyond us

2. Watching Glastonbury from the comfort (and dryness) of our own sofas

Despite the undeniably epic performance that was Beyonce’s on Sunday night, there is nothing that could have tempted us to swap our ballet flats (or indeed, Finspadrilles!) for a pair of mud soaked wellies in the heart of rainy Somerset this year.

Did anyone not want be Beyonce at this point? Boys?

3. Front Row Fashion Watch

Milan and Paris’s Mens Fashion Week have provided us with an abundance of extravagant and indulgent outfits for us to dissect from the most stylish of men.

Our favourite offerings come from the delightful Bryan Boy and the ever cool Kanye West.

How many men can pull off Leopard Print?!

HATE

1.  Reality TV Overkill-

As if the prospect of a TOWIE clothing range wasn’t shocking enough, we then heard about Foxy Bingo’s and Lauren Goodger’s new fragrance, which is almost too much to handle.

Seriously?

2.  Getting What We Wished For

After weeks of moaning about the non-existent British summer, the heat has finally arrived, bringing with it a whole host of new complaints. Sticky chairs, sweaty trains, no air con – we could go on.

LOVE

Partying in Pitti:

Gelato, Ragu, Truffles and of course Wine, were all on the menu for Team Fin’s this week in Florence.

Too Many Women Bracelets:

These chic bracelets not only make you look good but also make you feel good as all proceeds go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Fin found it so hard to choose that she bought 1 in every colour!

Tennis Season:

The combination of chic white outfits, hot summer days and fierce competition from the likes of Nadal and Murray makes Tennis a hard sport to beat for the summer. Bring on Wimbledon!

Keeping our fingers crossed for Pimms weather for Wimbledon

Ascot Related Entertainment

And no we aren’t talking about the horses. With features from claws to iPads, the hats this year have been on a level that would make even Lady Gaga think twice.

Because human limb imitations are sure to improve every outfit

HATE

Pippa Middleton Overkill:

Yes, she’s got a nice bum. And fairly glossy hair. And yes, she is the sister of our future Queen. But does this really warrant full page spreads applauding her outfit choices in countless magazines?

Anyone else a little bored?

Flip Flops in the City

So not chic guys.

A pair of Haviana’s may look cool on a relaxed Thai beach but any boy worth his Fin’s knows that the only way to chill out in the English sun is in a pair of Finspadrilles.

Post Sale Guilt

With so many irresistible sale offerings from the likes of my-wardrobe.com, Selfridges and Harrods there was no time for nagging “Do I really need 3 pairs of Balmain sunglasses” type thoughts. Unfortunately, 2 days later our bank balances are looking decidedly smaller and those guilty thoughts are definitely trickling in!

Who's for 40% off?

The Pitti Party – Day Two

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Watching the fashion world go by from our stand at Pitti, you can imagine that we see quite a few characters swanning past.  You never know who is going to open up their cheque books, so the most important rule is to smile at everyone.

Yesterday, amidst the barrage of TW’s (Time Wasters) we saw a few of our Northern European and Scandinavian customers, and opened a new account with a very cool shop in Copenhagen, as well as a new door in Amsterdam (we’ll let you know more closer to the time).

Today, it’s been the turn of the Far East buyers, who travel in packs, each one more outrageous than the last.  Their approach is thorough to the point of being ritualistic, and they keep their cards very close to their chests…

We were pleased to see our belt maker, Giovanni, who had come into Florence from his factory in the Tuscan Hills.  For Spring 2012, we have introduced 2 new styles, both of which complement the new shoe styles beautifully, and are a natural extension to the range.

Fin with Giovanni - Smiles all round!

So, back to grinning aimlessly…

The Pitti Party – Day One

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

The streets of Florence were abuzz with fashionistos last night as we wandered to dinner, sounding the arrival of the coo-el-est menswear show on earth: Pitti Uomo 80, where Fin’s is once again exhibiting next season’s wares.

It is at Pitti that the Spring Summer 2012 new styles and colours get their first viewing. If a brand wants to get their product in front of some of the most (F)influential buyers on planet earth, then this is a very good place to start.

There are lots of chic new additions to the Fin’s collection, for which the plebians among you will have to wait a little longer before you can slip your feet into.

Until then, we can confirm that colour, colour, colour will still be hot for next year, so a bright loafer can still be seen as a long term (F)investment.

The Hoff and Fin’s: A Love Story

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

If you were wandering down the King’s Road this afternoon, you may have felt a little something in the air; a slight frisson of excitement, a strange sense that something special was happening in Chelsea.  You would not have been wrong.  It’s a well known fact that, of all our wonderful, stylish heart throb Finbassadors, there is one that tops them all.  The Hoff (David to his friends) has been a loyal follower of Fin’s since the first patter of Fin feet way back in 2008, and so a fly-by visit to Fin’s HQ to see his favourite cobbler and to reminisce on old times and plan for the new was an essential part of his itinerary.

We were mighty glad to see him, and after a few photo-ops, he stocked up on a few favourites to see him through.  The new Limited Edition Drummond Cotton Twill in Hyde Violet was a particular favourite, but he also picked out some of his beloved George Loafers in Trancoso Pink for his holidays, as well as some essential London Navy Georges for summer-long wear.

Thanks for stopping by, David!

I Should Coco

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

It’s not every day that a Finsketeer finds herself in the heart of the Square Mile on a Wednesday morning, but at 8 o’clock this morning, with church bells peeling and cloudless skies above, there I was.  And so it was that I stopped into the newest and shiniest of Fleet Street eateries, Coco di Mama.  Newly opened in May this year, Coco di Mama is the first of what I hope will be many tasty doors across our nation’s capital and beyond.

If you’re looking for the most handsome and dashing baristas in town, serving you a genuinely tasty cappuccino and out-of-this-world pain au Valrhona chocolat (beyond, I tell you), then I would urge you to make a diversion to Coco di Mama.

I think the main draw lies in the lunchtime options – totally mouth-watering pots of pasta with all the sauces you would dream of – blue cheese carbonara, cherry tomato and mozzarella were on the menu today – and there are delicious looking sandwiches and salads as well.  Might I also recommend a spot of people-watching from the window seats: Coco is conveniently perched opposite Goldman Sachs, so you can find a dish of the day in more ways than one.

Coco di Mama is at 90 Fleet Street, London, EC4Y 1DH
Open 07:00 to 18:00
0207 583 9277

Make sure you follow them on Facebook and Twitter to get the latest menus and specials.
